Did you know that was first called as Oak?

When James Gosling, often referred to as “Dr. Java”, was working at Sun Labs, he and his team were building a set-top box, and started to clean up C++. They then ended upwith a new language – Oak, which later came to be known as Java!

Java was first released to the world on May 23, 1995.

Today, Java is used widely for Desktop Computing, Mobile Computing, Gaming, and Numerical Computing. Around 90% of the Fortune 500 companies are using Java today!. Java was designed to be easy – easy towrite, easy to compile, and easy to debug. The language is independent of the platform – you can run the same program on many different systems. Java in platform independent at the source level as well as the binary level. Java is an ObjectOriented Programming (OOP) language – it enhances the flexibility, and the re-usability of the code. Java programs are economical to develop and maintain.

It’s a secure language – It reduces the security threats by avoiding the use of explicit pointers.
